Yasouj is a city in the south of Iran and the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. Yasuoj is located on the slopes of the Zagros Mountain chains and Mount Dena, at an altitude of 1,870 meters above sea level. The people of this city are from Lur tribe and speak the Luri language. The name Yasuoj or Yasyj means a place where jasmines grow abundantly. Yasuoj, after Rasht, is the second provincial capital in Iran with the highest snowfall and rainfall and is considered to have a Mediterranean climate. The city is famous for being located on the slopes of Mount Dena (the highest mountpeak of the Zagros), having two rivers, Beshar and Mehrian, Yasouj waterfall, Shah Qasem Dam Lake, numerous springs, oak forests, and abundant water resources. According to the 2016 national demographic reports, the city's population has been 134,532 people (in 54,850 households).
