Currently, Yasouj University is one of the top ranked universities in Iran and is credited to be the mother university of the province. It started in 1983 as a technical institute affiliated with Shiraz University, training students in the fields of Rural Construction and Welding Mechanics at the associate degree level. In 1993, with the establishment of the Agricultural Institute, it was upgraded to Yasouj Higher Education Complex affiliated with Shiraz University. In 1994, the university started admission of students in two new engineering fields at the associate degree level, called Roadway Substructure Engineering and Water and Gas Supply Installations Mechanics. In 1995, its status was approved to be upgraded to a university by the Higher Education Expansion Council. In 1996, it became independent of Shiraz University and in 2000 started its official carrier as Yasouj University, paving the way for the development of new disciplines at higher education levels.
