The Faculty of Basic Sciences was established in 1995 at Yasouj University; now with over 26 years of experience in education and research in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. Initially, it offered programs in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, and later added Biology, Statistics, and Phytochemistry. The school has 63 faculty members in different majors (13 full professors, 22 associate professors, and 28 assistant professors), over 1,000 undergraduate students, 400 master's students, and 100 PhD students. The faculty offers 5 undergraduate, 14 master's, and 7 doctoral programs. The Chemistry Department has 12 laboratories, and Physics Department 8. Biology Department also has got 6 educational and research laboratories. Three faculty members of the faculty of Basic sciences are among the world’s Top 2% scientists.
