The Faculty of Humanities and Literature was established in 2004 with a built-up area of 6,200 square meters, starting with two departments: English Language and Persian Language and Literature, and 10 faculty members. Previous to that time, faculty members in these two fields, as well as the Islamic Studies department, used to teach general courses at the university.

Yasouj is a city in the south of Iran and the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. Yasuoj is located on the slopes of the Zagros Mountain chains and Mount Dena, at an altitude of 1,870 meters above sea level. The people of this city are from Lur tribe and speak the Luri language. The name Yasuoj or Yasyj means a place where jasmines grow abundantly.
